Constructivism: Kfc staff punched customer in the face
The art movement that I chose for this artwork is Constructivism, in Constructivism it often use of geometric or technoid primary forms, arranged in a space. Base on my understanding, constructivism not just geometric shapes, it also involved pictured and texts. Constructivism works is to bring out the message to the public, thus the works are clear and easy for people to get the message from the works itself. I was inspired by one of Alexander Rodchenko’s poster with a lady Lilya Brik in it, purpose for Soviet publisher Gosizdat.
In my artwork, I related it with KFC staff caught hitting customer case. KFC staff bitten a Chinese guy in KFC, as they can’t fulfill the customers’ needs (e.g. Sorry the Combo Meal is sold). One of the staff ran out and punching the customer in the face, and even shouted at the customer ‘If you want to eat, make it yourself’. A Chinese-looking guy laughing irony saying that ‘Make it yourself!’. The guy symbolizes the customer who got punching in the face. In the work, I make the customer to say ‘Make it yourself’ instead of the staff is to tell people that if the position has changed will the customer do the same thing the staff did? Or it’s the staff’s attitudes that cause this case happen? I placed ‘staff’ at top left and bottom left are to symbolize that in this case the staff seemed to be the main reason that causes it happened. The ‘customer’ is smaller than ‘staff’ in my work is to symbolize that the vulnerable customer who got punch in the face. The colors that I used in my work are all base on the KFC logo colors.
